An article in Medical News Today reports that anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the United States, affecting approximately 40 million adults — almost 1 in 5 people. Worldwide, nearly 300 million people have an anxiety disorder, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

While many doctors continue to medicate their patients, some have hung up their stethoscopes in search of a better way.

“I felt like there was a void in my practice, as if just treating the symptom was not enough,” says Sonia Gupte, a former medical doctor who left her practice and founded enso-nia, a center specializing in mind and life transformation therapy and training, headquartered in San Diego, California.

Gupte has commenced teaching hypnotherapy at UCSD School of Medicine, marking the first time that hypnotherapy training will be conducted at a medical school in the United States. “This aligns perfectly with my vision and passion: that all doctors should know this modality to understand the cause of a chronic disease, and not just to treat symptoms,” Gupte says.

Before coming to the U.S., Gupte spent 15 years as a medical doctor in India, Singapore and Dubai. But she saw firsthand the limitations of medical science in solving people’s problems. “I have always had this inner urge to do more than prescribing pills and managing diseases for my patients,” Gupte says. “In medical school, we are literally incomplete. We talk medicine, we talk chemicals, but the biggest problems arise from our subconscious mind.”

Based on that awareness, Gupte began to see how utilizing the power of the subconscious mind in a positive way could bring about extraordinary transformations in all areas of life – not just better health, but improved well-being, more meaningful relationships, personal growth, even wealth.

That is when Gupte did the unthinkable – she gave up a successful career in mainstream medical practice to follow her passion of using clinical hypnotherapy as a transformational tool, helping her clients to unlock the power of their subconscious mind.

Today, Gupte and her team use clinical hypnotherapy to successfully resolve complex physical health problems, emotional traumas, uncontrollable crying, chronic diseases, phobias, anxieties, depressions, addictions, behavior and relationship issues, helping over 2,000 people in just four years.

One of Gupte’s clients (“S.C.”) is a woman in her forties who suffered with an anxiety disorder and gastrointestinal issues for decades. Before working with Gupte, S.C. had been diagnosed with H. Pylori infection; and, since this infection is seen as a precursor to cancer, patients are usually prescribed multiple courses of antibiotics. In S.C.’s case, the antibiotics made her gastrointestinal condition even worse. This created even more anxiety, leading to insomnia and depression.

In just a few sessions, Gupte was able to uncover the subconscious thoughts from S.C.’s past that were creating the negative symptoms.

“As we worked through these issues using hypnotherapy, I felt shifts in my thoughts as well as my body,” S.C. says in a written testimonial. “The physical and mental exhaustion compounded by anxiety and sleep issues started to subside.” After just three months of sessions with Gupte, decades of chronic physical and emotional symptoms were healed. “No anxiety… No depression… No insomnia… Perfect gastrointestinal health, and full of confidence and joy,” Gupte reports. “All this was achieved in just a handful of sessions, working on the subconscious.”

Gupte predicts that as people continue to experience frustration and disappointment with traditional Western medicine, they will seek alternative therapies that actually work, and she wants to be on the leading edge of helping more people. “You can reprogram your subconscious, and you can do it in as short as five to six sessions,” Gupte says. “We all deserve that.”
