ROMAE Jewelry is pleased to announce the launch of its online boutique of luxury jewelry. ROMAE has quite a niche market, as its jewelry line is unlike any other that has been available for the past two thousand years!
ROMAE was founded by a pair of jewelry enthusiasts, including classical archaeologist Cris and artist Elena. Cris was trained in the U.S. as an archaeologist and museum curator, with a focus on the ancient Greek and Roman world. She received her Ph.D. at Brown University, and has an M.A. and B.A. from the University of Chicago. For the past 20 years she has lived in Rome, Italy, and worked with ancient artifacts. She has always been particularly struck by the beauty and elegance of Roman jewelry, and convinced that the ancient designs would be as popular today as they were back then. She has dreamed of making this collection for many years, and is thrilled to finally bring her vision of Roman-inspired jewelry to the public. Elena is an artist, entrepreneur, and NYU graduate who has spent much of her life in Italy. She has designed her own collection of Roman-inspired jewelry with a modern twist.
Cris was initially inspired to create the collection after years of teaching university in Rome. “Every time I would bring a class through a museum gallery containing ancient jewelry, the students fell in love with the jewelry! The styles were still so current and relevant, the jewelry so incredibly gorgeous – I knew that we had to bring them back. So, we created a line that is completely inspired by ancient jewelry, even reviving at times the special shapes or clasps used by the ancient cultures. It’s been so rewarding to put my archaeological and curatorial training to work, in this way. ROMAE’s jewelry line includes rings, earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets, many of them with semiprecious stones that are faithful to the ancient examples. These include stones such as garnet, carnelian, onyx, amethyst and crystal. Each of our pieces is made to order, and we really want the collection to be accessible to everyone, so clients choose the precious metal for their piece, either sterling silver, 18 karat yellow gold over sterling silver, 14 karat gold, or 18 karat gold. We also take special orders for different metals, and different stones, and, we personalize! That was something that many ancient cultures did with their jewelry – inscribe names or messages on the pieces. We are so happy to revive all of these aspects, with our special line of jewelry.”
