From writer/director/producer, Nicole Brending (Selfied, Operated by Invisible Hands) and released by ROCK SALT RELEASING, DOLLHOUSE: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity from American Popular Culture is a brilliant and brave satire of misogyny told through our society’s perspective of women as objects.

As a dark comedy set in the bubble gum pop world of Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan and told by entertainment reporters, DOLLHOUSE chronicles the triumph and train wrecks of fictional child pop star, Junie Spoons. Her fall from grace is a cautionary tale about the consequences of denying women their own voice and a reflexive expose forcing us to acknowledge the less than savory pop industrial complex we all can’t help but buy into.

“Told in an extremely crass and graphic style with modified (sometimes, horrifically) fashion dolls that evoke Matt Stone and Trey Parker’s Team America: World Police,” wrote Pop Culture Cosmos, DOLLHOUSE has “spot-on storytelling that provides moments of true clarity on the evils of our society.”

Junie falls into the trap of fame, money, drugs and the misogynistic Hollywood starlet world, from losing her virginity in a viral sex tape, to posing at Playtoy (aka Playboy) at age 15, Junie has been well noted for an infamous court battle over rights, a Patty-Hearst style kidnapping and bank heist, and her high-speed police chase and shutdown of Los Angeles’ Ventura FWY in her pink Ford Bronco.

Stylized by puppets to reveal the hypocrisies of an opportunistic society that preys on the talents and contributions of women, DOLLHOUSE is a scathing look at what it means to be female in a modern world; assaulted by men and women and harassed by the media, representing a new era obsessed with identity and entitlement.

DOLLHOUSE: The Eradication of Female Subjectivity from American Popular Culture might be the most grotesque and nauseating films you see this year. It might also be one of the most relevant and important,” wrote The Critical Critics.
