Although our business office is located in the American Mid-West, our beginnings started in the heart of Pennsylvania. As such, we contemplated locating our office somewhere in the Philadelphia region. One area considered was the affluent suburban community of Gladwyne.
We became interested in the community of Gladwyne after reviewing the article, “See PA’s Most Interesting Midcentury Homes For Sale”, on the patch.com website. Our business owner was interested in purchasing a home near Philadelphia, but far enough from the city center to feel like you were in the countryside. The Gladwyne area provided homes in the price range of $400K to $3.6M. Many of the homes appeal to those who enjoy the midcentury modern style homes. There are plenty of things to do in the area of Gladwyne PA after work hours. If you enjoy walking in the park, Rolling Hill Park is for you. You can travel down winding roads and under one-lane bridges in Lower Merion. The park is a dog-friendly park with both on and off-leash trails and fenced play areas. The trails will take you through deep, established woods and open meadows. Hike the blue trail to Mill Creek and investigate the ruins of several large stone buildings that housed millworkers before the turn of the century. If environmental education is your cup of tea, don’t miss visiting the Riverbend Environmental Education Center (REEC), which hosts over 10,000 visitors each year. Found among 30 wooded acres, the REEC sits on the banks of the Saw Mill Run, a direct tributary to the Schuylkill River.
Other highlights that attracted us to Gladwyne included a low unemployment rate with positive job growth. Although the overall cost of living is marked at 132% of the national average, payroll for the company is commensurate with local cost of living. With transportation improvements, commuting into Philadelphia takes only 30-35 minutes. We found that we could get more information on the area by contacting Main Line Homes. Although we are still looking, we hope to find something soon.
