Flower Power in Designer’s Fashion Week in Wuhan

March 30 20:33 2021

The first Hu Sheguang Supermodel International Fashion Week kicked off in Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei province, on March 27. This booming fashion event, featuring this year’s autumn and winter couture, runs through March 31, a time when cherry blossoms grace the city.

The cherry blossoms at Donghu Lake are world-renowned, and enjoying their floral beauty has become a welcome part of Wuhan’s distinctive culture. The pink cherry blossoms represent energy and the spirit of life, just like Hu’s style.

Cherry blossoms in the spring have been a source of inspiration for designers such as Hu, who has combined the flowers with fashion to create this event, featuring a couture show and runway show with his supermodels.

In less than three years, the organization called Sheguang Hu’s Supermodels has more than 100 branches and 4,000 female members, and has grown into the world’s leading platform for aesthetic education for women.

Set up in 2018, the organization represents women of different ages and body types, giving everyone a chance to light up the catwalk.

Hu wants to break with the traditional pattern of fashion discourse belonging to the elite and top brands. In his view, every woman can become a “new runway queen”.

As a designer for the queen of the Netherlands, Hu continues to forge fashion legends, such as Wang Deshun and Zhang Xinyu.

Wuhan was chosen for this fashion week because Hu saw the vitality of fashion in the city, which has not only history, century-old brands and craftsmanship, but also skyscrapers, modern fashion institutes and industrial bases.

The Donghu Lake Sakura International Fashion Art Season has once again re-imagined Wuhan, turning fashion into an important calling card for the city. The future of Wuhan is full of new possibilities.
